Points & Lines

Research

I studied lines and points of 6 interior spaces based on the images I choose. The design elements are extracted to study the design & the uniqueness of each spaces .

Mock-up Model 1

Planes, Voids & Volumes

This model is built using one of the patterns to explore planes, volumes, and voids. The design of my model is inspired by a conch and it was built based on triangles.

Task

In this assignment, I was required to study lines and points of 6 interior spaces of any buildings by finding the points or edges & link together with lines to create patterns. These patterns are then developed into 3D models. For 3D models, I have to build 2 mock-up models as design development and 1 final models with improvements.

Mock-up Model 2

This model is built using another pattern but same concept. The improvements are made based on mock-up model 1. The design is more dramatic and playful.

Planes, Voids & Volumes

Final Model

Planes, Voids & Volumes

This model is the improvement of second mock-up model. The design is more consistence to avoid being overboard. The concept is still the same with more detailed and better workmanship.

Model 2

10.jpg

In this development, I introduced void inside a volume. However, my design went overboard where it looks messy. My tutor suggested me to use similar materials and colours to look more consistence.  In this model, I have a better exploration on height and exterior designs.

Final  Model

My final model has a better consistency and workmanship compared to previous models. However, I was advised to look more into hierarchy when designing so that it has a better visual guidance. The model is basically made from same materials as previous model.

Model  1

This is my first exploration in this assignment where I was too focusing of the exterior and neglected the interior. I was suggested to put in more volume to give more depth and shapes to it. The material I used are bamboo sticks, paper, cardboard and threads.

2.0 Lifelong Learning

In this assignment, I learnt about design elements and composition when designing the models. I realize a good design depends on good composition where good compositions must has a good understanding of ideation and concept. I slowly understand the meaning behind it throughout the development if model making. I will apply this in my future projects to create better design.

3.0 Thinking and Problem Solving Skill

I ran into an issue with this assignment where I couldn't find the right materials for my model. Initially, I chose MDF boards and other thicker, harder materials because I felt that papers and cardboard were too lame and boring. However, I realize simple is better. As long as one is motivated and passionate, anyone can create amazing models out of any material. I wasted quite a few materials and time but eventually learnt from this lesson. At the end, I choose paper and cardboard.

6.0 Intrapersonal Skills

I was able to manage time well and completed the assignments few days before the deadline. I did prepare a schedule for research, model making and buying materials so that everything is in the right track. Besides, I also asked feedbacks from my tutor so that I can improve my models and composition. One of the most helpful advise I received is to look the model in 360 degree.
