Task

This assignment required me to create a space based on my client's preferences from the film "Inside Out," which is Fear. I had to create two mock-up models and one final model with scales of 1:200 and 1:100 and dimensions of 7.5cm x 7.5cm x 15cm and 15cm x 15cm x 30cm, respectively. Design principles and elements, as well as ergonomics and proportions, should be considered.

Design  Development

3.jpg

The design concept of the models are inspired by Howl's Moving Castle. The design of the castle is surrounded by many rooms and spaces which gives a feeling of secure and "Home sweet home". The dome-shaped turret is the main influence towards my models' design.

Mock-up  Models  Development

4.jpg

The overall design of first model is straightforward and simple compare to second model. However, there is a lack of space utilisation and functionality that needs to be resolved in model 1. Most of the improvements are made in model 2.

Final Model Development

8.jpg

The final model makes full use of space and functionality, which is ideal for the client. All improvements and adjustments were made based on the first and second models. This model is unique in that it can be viewed from the inside. A section model is what it is.

Character  Research

This is the research compilation of my assigned client, Fear based on his personality, preferences, habits, like & dislike and etc. The research is obtained from the movie "Inside Out" and side clips.

2.0 Lifelong Learning

In this assignment, I learnt a lot regarding architect such as presentation, the understanding of client's needs, design principle and spatial relationships. Besides I tried to push myself further by doing things I haven't tried before such as doing a section model. At the end, I was able to build it with satisfaction. I acquired a better understanding of space and It will definitely helps me in the future.

3.0 Thinking and Problem Solving Skill

The issue I faced in this assignment are to design a space with functionality in which have no idea and direction to start with. I procrastinated until the end of the second week without making any progress. However, in order to find inspiration, I tried Pinterest and Instagram. Eventually, a good idea struck me, and I was able to complete my model a week ahead of schedule.

6.0 Intrapersonal Skills

During tutorial, I noted down all comments and suggestions on how to improve my model from my tutor, especially for mock-up model 1. After that, I revise back on my client's preference and do more in depth studies to resolve some of the problems of my model. I also started making a timetable to keep track on my progress to ensure that I will not be procrastinating just like the first 2 weeks.
